XAVIER KEYZ
Burgeoning singer, songwriter and music producer Xavier Keyz has no intention of redefining R&B. On the contrary... It is his passion for classic soul that continues to make the artist a standout among so many gimmick-ridden acts currently pervading the airwaves. Born and raised in Chicago, Xavier Keyz (a.k.a. Cameron Frazier) began singing at age 2(!). He recalls, “It was Faith Evans’ hit ‘Soon As I Get Home.’ I sang it out loud to my parents and friends and they all gave me this look of surprise. I was just learning to speak and yet I was delivering verses and choruses… and they were in tune!” From that point on, there was little doubt that music was destined to become the major force field in his life. He took to the piano as if he had played it all of his life —playing any song by ear. And thus was born his lifetime moniker: Xavier Keyz.
Ever working to increase his talent, Xavier Keyz was in the right place at the right time, joining Chicago’s Children’s Choir, and then a cappella sextet the Harmony Brothers at Kenwood Academy during high school. They sang at basketball games and other local functions around Chicagoland area, hoping to make a name for themselves. After downsizing to four members and then to two (as J2), Xavier Keyz and his partner released a full- length album, “Another Level” in 2012. It was three months later when Xavier realized that his best shot at notoriety was as a solo artist.
Music always remained Priority No. 1: Xavier Keyz’ first official step into the solo music realm was single “Trip To Mars” in the fall of 2013, which was followed in February 2014, by love song “Nobody Else But You,” a collaboration with songstress B.Lin. That became the game-changer for Xavier Keyz, creating massive buzz in the Midwest—and then beyond —including positive press on USAToday.com, thisisrnb.com, Youknowyougotsoul.com & many others.
Xavier Keyz' released his debut project Monday Thru Sunday in December of 2015. Xavier's project has sold over 5000+ albums direct to his loyal female-based supporter base. His project is about bringing love back to R&B and is a modern Odé to letting his listeners know that love based R&B isn't dead. Xavier began to expand his global supporter base in the fall of 2017 traveling to Mumbai India to perform at the “Totempole Music Fest. In the summer of 2018 he embarked on his first mini tour overseas spending one month in Europe. As one of the headlining acts for his first indie D.I.Y. Euro tour entitled “Its More Than An Algorithm Tour” his tour stops included the following : Rotterdam, & Groningen Netherlands, Luxembourg, Valencia, Spain, & Cannes, France.
“I’m the perfect example of someone that knows that if you believe in yourself and never allow your vision to be diminished by circumstances or the negativity of others, success will find you. I know I have what it takes to shine in a crowded field. It takes perseverance, of course, but this is where I belong. Xavier is currently set to release his sophomore album entitled Red Wine; May 1, 2020 which is accompanied by a trilogy of music videos & his own movie explaining the backstory of his album. The first single entitled “Things Change” is currently available on all digital platforms.

Alex Bayly
London, UK based Alternative-Folk artist Alex Bayly released 2021’s Skipping Stones four track EP the follow up to his 2019 debut album Ley Lines. He’s been featured on BBC Radio, Mahogany Sessions, Sofar Sounds, DIY and Clash Magazine and has previously performed at Glastonbury, Ronnie Scotts & The Lexington. His music regularly featured in playlists alongside artists such as Bon Iver, Laura Marling, Michael Kiwanuka and Nick Drake. During 2020 he did a lockdown home session for Mahogany with his song ‘Distance’ which saw a resurgence during the lockdown period. The song’s subject matter focuses on perseverance during times of hardship set against an organic acoustic folk soundscape.
He has an ear for beautiful melodies and a wistful chorus. Having cut his teeth on both London’s indie and folk scenes independently, his English folk roots add a unique depth to the tense, ethereal song writing.
He managed to squeeze one live show in the summer 2020 Wandsworth Park Summer Sessions one of the few live events of last year. Ley Lines (2019) received widespread support from Spotify, AmericanaUK, Fortitude Magazine, Atwood Magazine, BBC Radio, Alexrainbird, Indie Folk Central and The Sound Sniffer Blog.
His solo career began with the 2017 release of ‘New America’, with the title single gaining 90k streams and airplay from BBC Radio & Amazing Radio. ‘New America’ captured the melancholic atmosphere and organic instrumentation that would be a calling card for following releases. This was followed by a string of releases on two independent labels My Little Empire Records & Big Indie. Channelling the gorgeous ethereal balladry of Jeff Buckley and the off-kilter guitar work of Andy Shauf, ‘Wade In The Water’ combined angular, reverberant guitars with Bayly’s vocal which floats effortlessly between a low, earthy richness to a beautifully brittle falsetto. Between them they picked up support from the likes of Clash, It’s All Indie, Various Small Flames, Indie Folx, Indie Folk Central and radio plays from Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing.
The follow up single, ‘Clear Air Turbulence’, was premiered by Clash Magazine who said 'Clear Air Turbulence' feels effortless…dreamy vocals and tweaked guitars, 'Clean Air Turbulence' is reminiscent of work by the likes of S. Carey, matching a wonderfully beautiful surface to lyrical exploration”. More stripped back sonically, ‘Clear Air Turbulence’ creates a gorgeously emotive soundscape, with Bayly’s repeating delayed guitar line providing a perfect backdrop for a serenading piano hook and playful strings which swell towards the track’s soaring chorus. His warm and rich vocals are the final ingredient, blending perfectly amongst the noise. Taking its name from from his emotional response to the work of the late Iain M. Banks’ book Consider Phlebus, Bayly describes that “‘Clear Air Turbulence’ describes the overblown melodrama of the song. Bank's often dark space operas and novels conjure up so much conscious and subconscious meanings. But his books often end without a clear resolution.”
Bayly’s final release of 2018, ‘Distance’, nods to experimental and progressive artists past and present which have inspired him such as Nick Drake and Benjamin Francis Leftwich and picked up praise from When The Horn Blows, Turtle Tempo, Buzz Music, Sounds New Sounds Good, Talk About Pop Music and more. Lyrically the song muses over the effects of the human race on the world we occupy and each other. The chorus describes a haunting filmic moment as someone, perhaps a friend/lover, recognises the levity of the moment, ‘You look in the distance and you say, we can’t have it any other way.’
2018 saw Bayly play a run of successful gigs with his 5 piece band including headline shows at Rye Wax and Sebright Arms, gigs at the legendary Ronnie Scotts, The Finsbury, a slot supporting The Last Dinosaur and Jack In The Water at Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston and a Sofar Sounds sessions alongside Fatherson.

Bjorn Rydhog
It’s been about three years since Bjorn Rydhog came into our world with a pocketful of “Sunshine” and the feel-good indie folk of his debut EP, There’s a Light in Everything. Hailing from Malmö, Sweden, the multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter has a habit of crafting uplifting, wondrous pieces ready to soundtrack our days and night – it’s fun, smile-inducing music that connects on a deeper level. Together with producer Johan Sigerud (JRSS) and co-writer Olof Gråhamn, Rydhog has continued to take his melodic indie pop into an electronic and beat-based realm. Melancholic progressions are blended with a modern retro sound inspired by Dua Lipa and The Radio Dept. A logical continuation of their previous collaboration, the singles ‘Just to Be with You’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Be Alone’ which were picked up by the Swedish radio. On September 17, 2021, the first single from the much anticipated upcoming third EP will be released.
The Revue: “As the world emerges from extended isolation, music like his is the perfect soundtrack for that transition. Bjorn Rydhog delivers intimacy that often becomes therapeutic. Listening becomes an act of surrender and relocation to a dream place as his lyrics describe”.
Blackplastic.co.uk. “The repeated line of “I don’t wanna be alone again” is somehow transformed from a something that could have been filled with passive longing into something much more actively chosen: I choose not to be alone any more”.

Cheer Up Club
Cheer Up Club are a clash of millennial ADDepression and the joyful nihilism of 90’s college radio. Like a broken funhouse mirror, they reflect a cracked and distorted image of whatever’s put in front of them. Loud, sarcastic, and fun, Cheer Up Club embrace an “anything goes” approach to songs that playfully skate between the sweet, cynical, and sincere.
Based in Los Angeles, Cheer Up Club balance buoyant melodies with angular, effected guitars and snide, left-field lyrics. Pummeling drums drive fluid bass grooves, while psychedelic synths create splashes of color across their sound. Combining the snarling, energetic hooks of Buzzcocks with the Californian ramblings of Pavement, Cheer Up Club move fast and hit hard.
Claire Faravarjoo
Claire Faravarjoo is the pulsating French pop phenomenon that makes you dance, light-headed, in nightclubs where everything is possible and everything can go wrong too. Picture this: an awkward encounter with an ex lover, a wet bouncer who’s ruining the party, and possibly too many Tequila shots. Claire Faravarjoo has made a name for herself in the French musical scene and puts us on the VIP list of her very own ‘Nightclub’ to celebrate. ‘Nightclub’ is Claire’s first music album. It’s a raw ode to youth and a tongue-in-cheek cocktail of sharpness and wit. Expect a fair amount of delicious rhythm, a spoonful of deep electro bass lines that flirt with disco sounds, a hint of retro synths and a good dose of itching for dancing til dawn in your worn-out trainers.
Clay Melton
Blues-rock prodigies are a special breed. They live and breathe the fiery swagger of electric guitars and the irresistible allure of rhythm-soaked sounds. That’s Clay Melton’s musical calling in a nutshell. At only 27, the Louisiana-born and Texas-based blues-rocker has already spent 14 years performing live. His powerfully raspy voice and wicked guitar licks leave no doubt he’s grown up in the school of barroom blues-rock.
Back to Blue, a 5-song EP released July 23, 2021, is Melton’s follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed, full-length debut Burn the Ships. Back to Blue, which Melton began recording November 2020 in Austin and finished May 2021 in Houston, boasts production and engineering credits by Grammy-winner Danny Jones (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Patti LaBelle, Etta James) as well as Clay himself. At the center of Back to Blue is “Say That You Love Me”, a scorching blues-rocker that immediately positions Melton as the future of the genre. The song and its accompanying live gig video are proof positive that Melton is a blues-rock dynamo, an artist with an incendiary soul.
Another standout on Back to Blue is the title track, a modern blues ballad dashed with rock and R&B seasoning. The song is also Melton’s emotional manifesto written during a worldwide pandemic that further validated the potent pull of creating music. Also of note on Back to Blue if Melton’s spirited cover of ZZ Top’s chestnut, “Jesus Just Left Chicago.”
Clay Melton is quickly establishing himself as a rising star, most recently picked to open for Grand Funk Railroad at on the Chevrolet Main Stage at the 2021 State Fair of Texas. Past credits also include opening for blues-legend Robert Cray and platinum-selling artist Chris Daughtry.

Ellen Pub
Ellen Pub is an alternative indie rock - synth pop band, founded in summer 2020. Eliseo Paiva and Emilio Molina met years ago at the church where they assisted. Both played as a “musicians church” there. Years later Caleb Horna integrated the same musical group, but curiously didn’t exist any relation between them more than the church service and of course the music. After many years, Eliseo finished his community service and decided to create the big project called E-P, being the first band in which he participated with supportive musicians. Emilio initiated his professional studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, a place in which he learned music and Caleb entered at the Superior Orson Welles Institute.
After many years of presentations, contests and different inscriptions at musical events, the Eliseo project's changed the course at the end of 2019 and with an album to finish, Emilio was convened to participate in a professional way in the project making their roads joining. Through the audition Caleb became one of them. Several years Josué Wong, who was involved in many music bands, met Eliseo. Then in February 2020, he was invited to participate in a project rehearsal and he decided to involucrate in the band. It's at that moment Ellen Pub started. Four guys of “shiny light” (Ellen) are able to present their music in any pub in the world. With years of experience with the musical quartet and during the project development, Ellen Pub got the first international invitation at the Mexico City to participate in the RAW Mexico City Presents Glow, event which will be realized at the same year, but for pandemia time it was canceled. However, Ellen Pub took this opportunity to grow up and raised their project since this bases and begun their first musical releases: “Paralelos” with Universos in July 2020, “Espérame” in November of the same year to get to release their album debut “Bunki Reloaded” in May 2021. After two months, Walter Fernández, a musician church and old friend of Emilio, Eliseo and Caleb, joined Ellen Pub to complete the band. They are ready to reach the world.

Emma Doo
She’s the Frenchiest of Americans. With family ties on both sides of the Atlantic, Emma Doo exudes American can-do energy and casual French elegance. She came to the world as Emma Flornoy, the daughter of a Gregorian chant vocalist, and began studying singing at age 15. Her artistic journey was filled with musical discoveries. "I remember crying myself to sleep, listening to Elvis Presley and Ben Harper..." During the previous decade, Emma Doo developed her songwriting techniques with the bands Fudge (formerly known as Oazzunk, Acid funk) and Wine (neo-soul/hip-hop) which took her to notable Parisian jazz-funk stages such as Musik’elles, Voulstock, Solidays, China, New Morning, and File 7. "I spent time in other people's heads and wrote a lot for other vocalists before I was able to truly connect with my own thoughts and write honestlyrics for myself", she says. In 2015, Emma moved to Boston to continue her musical journey at Berklee College of Music, where she learned how to write music, developed further her lyric writing skills and most importantly, gained enough confidence to lead her own project. "You'd think after 10 years of experience that I would trust every decision I make and always know what I want, where I wanna go, but I'm not that person. Sometimes I go right, and think... wait, should I be going left?! What I understood with time and help is that what matters most is writing with what you have and with who you are. As an artist, that's all you can do really, the closest to perfection you'll get is authenticity." She's now preparing her debut album produced by Arthur Caget (NuTone). It offers a taste of smooth soul and urban pop, reminiscent of a bill packed with world-class artists such as Jessie Ware, Julia Michaels, and
Alice Russell. However, it smolders with Emma's uniquely tender yet tough delivery, influenced by jazz greats Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald and pop voices such as Cat Power. Her vocals have been described as "a rough touch with a tender kiss." Spontaneity and subtlety cannot dim or disguise the crazy energy that flows from her on stage and in life.
Emma Halpin
Emma Halpin is a teenage artist from Manchester, England. Writing, recording and releasing songs ever since she was just 11 years old, all from the comfort of her own bedroom.
As said, Emma released her first single called 'Smile' back in 2015 when she was 11 years old and has continued to write and record music ever since. In 2018, Emma released her debut EP ('The Homebase EP') featuring 6 original songs all produced from home. In 2020, Emma released her debut album 'Cool Cupid' featuring 8 new original tracks - written, recorded and produced entirely form home during her months in lockdown. Also in December of 2020, Emma released her first ever Christmas single 'Don't Snow on Me'.
Emma is currently studying songwriting and production at the British and Irish Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) in Manchester. With many great inspirations such as The Carpenters, Rex Orange County and Holly Humberstone, Emma is hoping to move and relate to people with her classic writing style blended with her own bedroom production.
Evelinn Trouble
How many artists do you know who were hit by 10,000 Volts of electricity and managed to walk away from it? Evelinn Trouble is a vocalist, songwriter, producer, and visual artist who creates work that deals with the knotted and complex nature of the human condition. Critics have dubbed her the bastard child of Thom Yorke and Patti Smith. The description is apt, as her work is equally driven by stylistic innovation as it is by a deep-seated compassion and an inexorable outspokenness.
Evelinn was born in Zürich into a household filled with jazz; her mother is a professional jazz singer and vocal teacher. While pursuing the unbound freedom heard in the music of her childhood, Trouble dove into the local squat-scene. Head-first. It was in this subterranean, non-commercial space where she polished and tested her craft, clearly defining the parameters of her art. She honed her voice and tested its limits in loud, brash industrial rock bands. In under a decade, she recorded and produced 5 albums and three EPs, forging a vast sonic universe filled with dark poetry and breath-taking beauty. This intense work ethic and high output wrecked her voice, reducing it to a whisper. It took a total of two years to rebuild it with proper technique and an eye on self-care.
Evelinn’s songs are extremely personal and serve a cathartic purpose, especially in how they deal with all the hurdles that life has been steadily throwing her way. No two releases in her catalog are alike; each a testament to the need for incessant self-reinvention and a natural aptitude for risk-taking. Evelinn lived and operated out of London, then Berlin, each of these cities leaving a distinct imprint on her work. She is currently based in Zürich.

Farewell Dear Ghost
FAREWELL DEAR GHOST had already earned quite a track record – from winning the Amadeus Austrian Music Award (in 2018) to airplay across Europe, prominent slots at festivals, tours through Asia (Korea, China) and Europe and so forth. Yet, after the successes of their debut "We Colour The Night" (2013), the wonderful EP "Skin" (2016, containing the ever young "We Were Wild Once") and the sophomore album "Neon Nature" (2018), it was time to take a deep breath - and a break.
The intense working years in the rear view mirrors of Philipp Szalay, Andreas Födinger and Alex Hackl had taken their toll. Now, some three years later, the trio has seen and overcome the both terrifying and relieving emptiness of getting off that workaholic-railroad they've spent their lives on.
After a quiet phase, they started to reassemble, redefine and actually "find" the band that they truly are: The band that is enjoying making their music so much, it will get you eventually, purely by its love, authenticity and energy. It carries a somewhat provocative anti-thesis in itself, some positive noise to break the melancholy and darkness that seems to have taken over the world quite recently. With their coming-of-age hymn "Nobody" (2021-07-09) FAREWELL DEAR GHOST return louder than ever, bursting through the door with hypertensive urgency. The Austrian trio effortlessly shifts between merciless energy and casual nonchalance all the while questioning and deconstructing a traditional sense of masculinity.
Farewell Dear Ghost are back to start a fire again. See you front stage.
Ian Fisher
It's been more than a decade since Ian Fisher left his home state of Missouri and moved to Europe, forever changing his life and his music. With songs that combine an international lyrical perspective and a world-traveler’s musical influences with Americana roots, Fisher has remained on the road ever since emigrating, penning over one and a half thousand songs while also playing hundreds of concerts around Europe, North America, and Africa. His fourteen independently released albums have earned praise from outlets like Rolling Stone — who described him as one of the new Americana artists you need to know and his 2018 release, Idle Hands, as "half Americana and half Abbey Road-worthy pop”. With his newest album, American Standards, “Fisher taps into a sound that is at once moving and different” (Glide Magazine), further braking the mold of the singer-songwriter with a collection of socially-conscious and diverse songs that veer between acoustic, stripped-down arrangements and full-band performances. Americana Highways writes, ”What’s instantly noticeable with Ian Fisher is how he manages to shuffle the gold pan of his natural Missouri Americana nuggets with his now expatriate Euro-pop morsels to produce a Euro-Americana hybrid showcase.” Like the artist himself, Fisher’s music resonates far beyond the borders of genres and countries.

Jango Flash!
Founded by producer, songwriter and frontman Jack Angus Golightly (Jango) in 2018, Jango Flash are a 5 piece ‘Kamikaze’ rock and roll band from Newcastle, England. Born out of the incestuous cauldron of northern music, Jango Flash were spat out, breathing hybrid energy into guitar music and dragging witnesses through a threshold into their mad world.
During the pandemic they have made waves playing live on Radio 1, being tipped an annual “hot one” accolade by Radio X’s John Kennedy, spotlighted on KINK fm in Holland, praised highly by Radio 6, playlisted by Amazing Radio for The Unsigned Guide and championed by their local BBC Introducing station as one of their top ten artists for 2021(courtesy of BBC Newcastle's Nick Roberts). The Line of Best Fit and Clash magazine have also shown Jango Flash a lot of love through previous single features and reviews. The band’s last music video for “Perseid 45” won the ‘Young Filmmaker of the Year’ award at one of the UK's leading film and TV festivals, Cinemagic
The group have been locked away in their riverside lair writing and recording an album, working with their in house film team on new art and rehearsing for the late 2021 circuit. Now with a new podcast in the works and a line of niche high end merchandise in production, the band continues to stay relentlessly creative in the face of the industry’s tarnished climate. Prepare to see the name ‘Jango Flash’ cropping up a lot.
The band are currently on their first tour promoting the single 'My Mercedes', having sold out their first three hometown shows in Newcastle.
'My Mercedes' was written as a dialogue between two best friends at bad places in their lives, who are trying to reach out to one another and find solace. My mum was a single mother travelling the world with my brother and working three jobs. Along the road she ended up in an oppressive relationship prior to meeting my dad, though fortunately she found the strength to kick back, protect my brother and get herself out of it. It was my mum’s friend that gave her the nickname “Mercedes” because she found elegance and strength in the way she carried herself through life. Whenever she writes to my mum she always starts with, “Dear my Mercedes”. So I opened the song like a letter, and finished the rest in a night.
This pandemic has ramped up the tension in people's lives to breaking point. Domestic abuse figures skyrocketed, and I ended up hearing horror stories from close friends of mine. This is close to home and something that I wanted to discuss, because no one should have to live with abuse and should always have support to find strength and speak out.

Odd Beholder
In Odd Beholder's music, Weinmann precisely and laconically records the oddities, shadows and misunderstandings of our time. Her version of embracing dark pop music is a way of dealing with unpleasant truths, yet it’s also a way to seek some comfort.
While Odd Beholder's debut album "All Reality Is Virtual" revolved around digitalisation, Weinmann's second album "Sunny Bay" addresses the topic of nature, or rather the romantic notions and existential fears that nature triggers in us. Before that, Odd Beholder released two impressive EPs, "Lighting" (2016) and "Atlas" (2017). In 2018, "Remixes" was released; a tastefully curated EP to which The/Das, Fejka and Hundreds contributed their work.
Odd Beholder's music is cinematic. The videos created for the music are always treated as conceptual art. The video clip for the single "Landscape Escape", shot by Berlin filmmakers Grambow & Kirchknopf in Azerbaijan in cooperation with the Azerbaijan Social & Modern Dance Association, won the jury prize of the "Best Swiss Video Clip"-Awards 2017. The song is also used at a central point in the film "Mario", which deals with the complicated handling of homosexuality in the world of football.
Odd Beholder has been invited to important festivals such as Great Escape (UK), Eurosonic (NL) or Reeperbahn Festival (DE), has toured in various formations in China, Italy, Germany and Switzerland and was explicitly asked by the Hamburg-based electro-pop duo Hundreds as well as by Bodi Bill to accompany their respective tours.
Over the course of various lockdowns and temporary border closures in 2020, Weinmann worked with Berlin musician Douglas Greed on the second Odd Beholder album "Sunny Bay", which will finally be released this autumn.

Roman Lewis
Roman Lewis’ debut release My First Failed Fairytale is an emotionally expansive double EP work that channels both a deep sensitivity and a vibrant sense of youth, with Lewis penning all the songs between the ages of 14 and 17. In this we witness Roman Lewis’ journey first hand, from naivety to a first understanding of what it is to love. A diary, a coming of age story that unfolds in real time.
Roman Lewis’s first venture into music was in the form of dance. From a young age he had dreams of being a contemporary dancer and fantasized about playing Billy Elliot in the West End. He was even a part of the prestigious CAT program for several years, but those dreams were put to bed when he tore his meniscus, and he moved on to singing.
He won his school talent show at the age of 13, after being judged by Cathy Guetta, the ex wife of french DJ David Guetta, she invited him to participate in a French singing competition called Rising Star. Roman travelled back and forth between London and Paris filming the various stages of the show, but the night before his first scheduled live appearance the show was cancelled. He was distraught at the thought on missing out on his dreams, but a chance encounter with a London based promoter scored him his first show at the Barfly (now Camden Assembly) instead.
After being incorrectly introduced as a Parisian busker, Roman gave a mesmerizing performance of covers to a packed out room. Dissatisfied by the fact that he was the only one not singing original material, he quickly started writing songs. Roman honed his craft throughout his early teenage years performing in clubs around London, and writing constantly.
At the age of 14 Roman was dying to record his material. Luckily, long time friend Dan Bartlett (Dan D’Lion) had just set up a home studio. The producer and multi-instrumentalist worked along side Roman recording three songs in between heated games of Ping Pong. Three tracks were released on Soundcloud and quickly gained and audience of admirers.
Roman showcased his songs throughout his year long residency at the Finborough Arms, and a one-off performance at Wembley Arena, where he and a handful of his friends wrote the theme song to the Voice In A Million adoption charity. He also fulfilled his musical theatre dreams starring in What I Go To School For: The Buster Musical where he played Charlie Simpson.
After finishing his GCSEs, he starting working with producer Catherine Marks, and eventually Bright Antenna Records. In what Catherine and Roman call "the little cupboard" in the downstairs of Assault and Battery studios, they constructed a unique production style around Roman’s emotional songs. Roman previously played all the instruments on his songs, but with the addition of some key cameos like Frank Turner on bass and electric guitar on Happiless, the songs were taken to new heights.
His appropriately entitled debut EP Heartbreak (for now) encompassed all the emotions of a romantic relationship and was followed up with part 2 Heartbreak (forever) where the pain of an ended relationship turns to anger then delusion then finally understanding. Both EP’s got a joint release on the US powerhouse indie label Bright Antenna under the title My First Failed Fairytale.

SkaZka Orchestra
SkaZka appeared out of nowhere and have been a jewel of the Berlin scene ever since. SkaZka is the band everyone likes. If you want to have a good night out, full of vitality and dancing, SkaZka is the band to watch. They are no intellectual classic-lovers or world music aficionados, but just charming young people who like to have fun themselves. That’s why the audience loves them. They tell their crazy fairytales on a wave of sweat, honesty and good vibrations.
But as SkaZka’s founder members ArturGorlatschov and Valentin Butt, who came to Berlin from the former Soviet Union in their childhood, have studied accordion and drinking beer at the prestigious music school ‘Hans Eisler’, SkaZka instantly had a high musical level while being accessible and easy to dance to at the same time.
After they had set up SkaZka together with their cool drummer girl Elena Shams in 2007, they quickly found a broad fan base between wedding and rave, folk fans and party people, theatre and playground. The orchestra, which had grown to eight members by then, is driven by ol’ captain Flo Metzger on double bass. Andrej Ugoljew on trombone and Johannes Böhmer on trumpet come from jazz, are handsome and blow their whistles to the limit.
Playfully SkaZka combines Russian folk, klezmer, ska, Balkan music, Latin American rhythms and even jazz to create a multi-cultural sound which is typical for Berlin: not too academic, but party-oriented. Germans?Russians? Berliners! But they sing mostly in Russian, which suits their music best.
In 2010 the band won the 1st price at the world music festival BilleVue in Hamburg. In the same year they sold out the famous FestsaalKreuzberg in Berlin for the release party of their debut album. That record was fun, but didn’t manage yet to capture all facets of Skazka. This time they have produced in the famous P4 Nalepa studio and thus ‘Kalamburage’ not only has a tight sound, but just bursts of ideas and musical styles. ‘Calambour’ is French and Russian and means play of words or twisting the meaning. Thus SkaZka’s lyrics are like strange plays in a surreal wonderland.
It obviously helped the record that, besides SkaZka, the band members have continued to work as professional musicians for the famous Berliner Philarmoniker, in jazz orchestras, big bands and for theatre productions. But their real baby is SkaZkka where they strip off their classical corset and let loose their wild creativity.
SkaZka means fairytale in Russian. And that is exactly how their story has been developing so far. They want to play and have done so on more than 300 concerts all over Europe. For the release party of ‘Kalamburage’ they have booked the legendary SO36 in Berlin. We bet 2013 will be the year no one who is interested in Eastern European music will get passed SkaZka.
Slut
When a band breaks away from its long-standing soundscape and - once again - sheds its skin, it can become anything today. A large orchestra or a laptop project. The sketchy can stand next to the polished. The impressive next to the inconspicuous. The elaborate next to the simple. The question is: Would you want that at all? And if so, as a band, will you really go through with it?
On their ninth album "Talks Of Paradise" Slut present themselves in an unusual and new sound garb. They have replaced the walls of sound, rethought the application of guitars. Instead, there are lots of analog electronic sounds, a deep transparency and some almost minimalist sketches ("Fala", "Yes No Why Later").
But these are only the most superficial changes.
The fact that this ninth album by Slut sounds different from its predecessors has a lot to do with its particular genesis. After the concert series for the album "Alienation" ended in the summer of 2014, the band couldn't and didn't want to continue seamlessly in the same way. For the first time in their long history together, there was a real "break". It came naturally, without any quarrel or the usual reasons that are often at the root of a hiatus. Drummer Matthias Neuburger left on good terms, the others simply went their separate ways and spent more time with their families. Everyone knew: This is something different from a well-deserved break after a long tour. "For the first time there was no agreement whether it would continue," says singer Chris Neuburger. No one wrote new songs, no one thought about recordings or concerts. Until 2017, when Rainer Schaller called Chris Neuburger: "We haven't seen each other in a long time." The two met on a winter evening in Ingolstadt, went out and talked about making music together. "That was what had been the missing link in my life for the last few months and years," says Chris. But how to start over? Just pick up where you left off?
"The next thing I knew, two plane tickets to Athens came in the mail," Chris recalls. The guitarist/keyboardist and singer spend a week in a vacant apartment, looking out at the Acropolis through a gap in the row of buildings opposite the balcony. For a week they do nothing but write music, record sketches for five songs, with one or two walks in between. And the music sounds pleasantly new. This may be due to the reduced instrumentation: A guitar, a keyboard, a bass, a microphone, the laptop - more wouldn't have fit in the hand luggage. But it also has to do with the circumstances: They start from scratch, without preparation. Chris creates his lyrics very spur-of-the-moment, situationally. More precisely, "What I heard at that moment."
The two don't yet know whether anything will come of the five sketches. They are happy about the "productive week" and try to keep this way of working.
The continuation arises soon. A video artist friend of theirs, who lives in Rome and will incidentally shoot two clips for the new album, travels to Ingolstadt for an assignment. They exchange apartments, so to speak, and the band travels to Rome with light luggage, this time as a foursome. Two more pieces are created there.
What is still missing from the collected material is a common sound. They get producer Fabian Isaak Langer on board, whose way of working they like. They play him what they have on tape and in their heads. "He was very clear," Rainer Schaller recalls. "He listened to everything and said: “This is what I want to do." Under Fabian's careful direction, the album now picks up steam.
The anthemic indie sound of their earlier albums is still there. You can listen into this on the advance single "For The Soul There Is No Hospital," among others. But it's not about obsessively trying something new. Or about the duel synth vs. guitar. Rather, it's about switching off automatisms. About a search for momentum. Even if this initially creates a mosaic of supposedly contradictory impressions.
Standing Like Statues
Its 2021 and STANDING LIKE STATUES continue to deliver on their unwillingness to compromise, with unbridled authenticity and honesty, so that together we can rise above the mediocrity. It’s time to question the lies and to tell the undeniable truth, to trust in yourself, have faith in your own actions and to be an agent for positive change. THIS IS YOUR CALL FOR SURVIVAL.

Reality Checkpoint. This EP explored a difficult time dealing with some of the personal issues experienced individually and together expressed by the raw EMOtion of the songs. Those expressions have now matured into something greater and something more than just us…. THIS IS SURVIVAL.
These songs have to tell the complete truth and inspire dialogue between people, to get the conversation moving, to shake the fear of rejection. It’s ok to have original thinking and it is definitely ok to express it. Through these new songs we are using our voice to silence the ridicules of the past, this isn’t just about the music, it’s a STATEMENT OF TRUTH.
The road is calling us, the energy is about to be unleashed. We want nothing more than to reconnect with our audience, face to face, hand in hand and get back to the music that gives us our purpose and sense of community. THIS IS OUR CALL FOR SURVIVAL.
